Volunteering with 1000 Generations is a chance to make a real difference in the lives of young people and their communities. Whether you’re mentoring in schools, helping at events, or supporting behind the scenes, your time and skills help create safe spaces, build confidence, and inspire hope for the future. Together, we’re breaking cycles, empowering the next generation, and showing what’s possible when a community comes together.

  • Becoming a long-term mentor in schools with 1000 Generations means committing to walk alongside young people over an extended period, building trust, consistency, and genuine connection. Mentors play a vital role in modelling positive values, encouraging resilience, and helping students realise their potential.

    What’s Required:

    • Working with Children Check (WWC): All mentors must hold a valid WWC and provide a copy before commencing.

    • National Police Check: Required for additional safeguarding in line with school and organisational policies.

    • Vetting Process: Includes an application form, reference checks, and an interview to ensure alignment with our values and the needs of the program.

    • Ongoing Check-Ins: Regular communication with 1000 Generations’ program coordinators to reflect on sessions, flag any concerns, and ensure support is in place for both mentors and students.

    • Commitment: Consistent attendance for the agreed term or school year, with flexibility only in exceptional circumstances.

By meeting these requirements, mentors help us maintain a safe, supportive, and reliable environment—because the young people we serve deserve nothing less.

  • Volunteering as part of our Cooking for a Purpose team is a hands-on way to make a difference in the community. Working alongside people in community kitchens, you’ll help prepare meals and build connections.

Your role isn’t just about following recipes – it’s about creating a welcoming environment where all people can learn practical cooking skills, work as a team, and see the impact of their efforts in real time. You’ll guide them through food preparation, safe kitchen practices, and presentation, while encouraging conversation, confidence, and connection.

Whether you’re an experienced cook or simply love helping in the kitchen, your time and skills will help nourish bodies and lift spirits – turning simple ingredients into something that brings comfort, dignity, and hope.

  • Volunteering to support in our Safe Spaces means being a steady, positive presence for young people. These spaces are designed to be welcoming, inclusive, and free from judgment—places where young people can relax, connect, and feel valued.

As a volunteer, you’ll help create that environment by greeting participants, encouraging respectful interactions, assisting with activities, and being available to listen without pressure or agenda. You’ll work alongside our team to ensure the space remains safe—physically, emotionally, and socially—while also supporting young people to access opportunities, resources, and positive role models.

Your presence shows them they matter, that their voice is heard, and that there are trusted adults who believe in their potential. In these moments, you’re not just supervising a program—you’re helping to build belonging, resilience, and community.

  • Partnering with 1000 Generations in schools means joining us in delivering impactful programs that mentor, equip, and inspire young people. Schools benefit from our evidence-based approach, experienced facilitators, and strong community connections, while partners help provide the resources, skills, and support needed to make it possible.

Partnerships can involve co-delivering workshops, providing guest speakers, offering hands-on learning experiences, or contributing resources like equipment, venue space, or funding. Together, we can create safe, engaging environments where students are encouraged to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

  • Regular giving is one of the most powerful ways to support the work of 1000 Generations. Ongoing donations—whether monthly, quarterly, or annually—allow us to plan ahead, respond quickly to needs, and sustain programs that change lives.

These contributions directly fund mentoring in schools, safe spaces for young people, and community initiatives like Cooking for a Purpose. By partnering as a regular donor, you’re not just making a one-time impact—you’re providing the stability that helps us reach more young people, build long-term relationships, and break cycles of disadvantage.

Every contribution, big or small, becomes part of a bigger story of hope, opportunity, and transformation.

  • A student internship with 1000 Generations offers hands-on experience in community programs that create real impact. Interns work alongside our team to support initiatives in schools, safe spaces, and community kitchens, gaining practical skills in youth engagement, event coordination, and program delivery.

Internships are designed to be mutually beneficial—students bring fresh perspectives, creativity, and energy, while we provide mentorship, guidance, and opportunities to apply learning in real-world settings. Tasks may include assisting with workshops, helping coordinate fundraising events, contributing to communications, or supporting administrative tasks that keep programs running smoothly.

We welcome interns from a range of study areas including education, youth work, community services, social sciences, communications, and event management. All interns receive the necessary inductions, and for those working directly with young people, a valid Working with Children Check is required.

By the end of the internship, students will have not only gained valuable professional experience but also contributed meaningfully to programs that empower young people and strengthen communities.
