MEET KATHERINE
1000 Generations was born out of Katherine’s own story. Growing up, home was marked by drug use and family violence. Chaos wasn’t something seen from the outside — it was lived daily. Looking back now, there were countless moments where a different outcome was possible. Moments where one adult, one safe presence, one person willing to intervene could have changed the trajectory much earlier. For Katherine, that turning point came when one person chose to believe in her. That belief became a doorway. One supportive voice led to another, and then another, until a village formed around her — people who saw her potential beyond her circumstances. That village didn’t erase the past, but it changed the future.
Years later, Katherine found herself mentoring young people who were incarcerated. Working inside the system, behind the walls, she saw the same patterns repeating. The same chaos. The same unmet needs. The same stories she recognised in herself. Brilliant young people, already written off, already dealing with consequences far heavier than the support they had ever received. Seeing the reality behind the walls made one thing painfully clear: intervention was coming too late. While the work inside was meaningful, the deeper revelation was this — prevention is where change truly begins. Getting in front of the crisis. Showing up earlier. Being the one supportive person before a young person ever reaches the justice system. That conviction is what birthed 1000 Generations in late 2022.
Established as a not-for-profit, 1000 Generations exists to pour into communities through partnership and collaboration. Because shaping a different future doesn’t happen in isolation — it takes schools, families, mentors, organisations and everyday people choosing to stand together.
At its heart, 1000 Generations is about this belief:
If one person can change a life, then a village can change 1000 generations.

At 1000 Generations, our mission is to build brighter futures by strengthening communities and creating lasting impact through meaningful engagement with young people.
We recognise that many young individuals face significant challenges, including social isolation, economic hardship, and strained relationships with their communities. Our work is dedicated to breaking these cycles by providing safe spaces where all people feel valued, heard, and supported.
Through targeted programs, mentorship, and life skills workshops, we create opportunities for young people, individuals and families to develop resilience, confidence, and a sense of purpose.
-
Collaboration is at the heart of our work—we engage with local organisations, religious institutions, sporting clubs, and community groups to create environments where people feel connected and empowered.
Current relationships in community: Brimbank Youth Services, RecLink, Dardi Munwurro, Retired Ambulance Victoria, Darebin Youth Services, Victoria Police Proactive Unit, Scouts Victoria, Country Women’s Association, Hume Youth Services, Bunnings Warehouse, Rotary and more.
-
Our prevention ecosystem is a deeply interconnected, wraparound model that brings together drop-in centres, school-based mentoring, and family life skills programs—reinforced by schools, police, and community leaders—to provide early intervention, continuity of care, and long-term pathways for young people and families at risk of disengagement.
By working across the Brimbank, Darebin, Melton, Melbourne CBD, Wyndham, Merribek and Hume LGAs, we deliver a coordinated, place-based prevention model that strengthens local networks, reduces disengagement, and creates long-term pathways for young people and families.
